Germany international Mertesacker expresses his delight following the arrival of compatriot Mezut Ozil at the Emirates

 
Arsenal's club record signing Mezut Ozil has been backed to be a success in the premier league by Gunners centre back Per Mertesacker. Mertesacker spent two years playing along side Ozil at Werder Bremen and the Arsenal defender is convinced that his compatriot has the capabilities to be a sucess story in the premier league. Mertesacker acknowledges that a lot of patience was required in the transfer window for Arsenal but he is glad that the club finally pulled of a marquee signing in the form of Mezut Ozil.
 
Mertesacker on Ozil and the deal: "I know him quite well. We spent two years together at Werder Bremen so I think that Arsene Wenger will get the best out of him. "I think he will fit in. He suits us and we're really looking forward to playing with him and to be his team-mate.""We were patient all the time on the transfer market. Mr Wenger said always that he was on the market but nothing happened."I could feel that something happened at the end of the transfer window. So I really appreciate that transfer."
 

Moyes receives backing from assistant manager Steve Round


David Moyes' assistant manager Steve Round believes that Moyes will be a success at United and that he has all the neccessary qualities required to succeed as manager of Manchester United.


Hutton expresses unhappiness at Villa


Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has aired his frustration after failing to secure a move away from Villa Park. The Scotland international spent last season out on loan at Real Mallorca after being frozen out of the first team by manager Paul Lambert. Hutton is thought to be angry that a move away from Villa Park failed to materilise and the 28 year old is also frustrated by the treatment which he has recived so far at Aston Villa.

Huttons' frustration provoked by the situation: "There were lots of us; Darren Bent, Stephen Ireland - I am talking international players - and Charles N'Zogbia, who have just been put to the side."For me it is not what should be done. We are not kids. "I was buzzing for Barry that he got out (to Crystal Palace) because he is a great player and doesn't deserve to be treated like that. "Unfortunately for myself, it didn't come off and I am angry about it."

Sturridge set to miss Ukraine fixture


In form Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will miss England's world cup qualifier against Ukraine due to injury. Sturridge was a notable absente in England's 4-0 win against Moldova on Friday. With Welbeck suspended for the Ukraine fixture, Carroll and Rooney both sidelined as well Sturridge, Southampton's Rickie Lambert looks odds on favourite to lead the line in Kiev this tuesday. Jermaine Defoe of Tottenham Hotspur is the only other striker available for selection at Roy Hodgsons' disposal.
